After vowing for years that they would have a place at the beach someday, Bill and Beth Davis now are living their dream on Topsail Island. Along with daughters Megan and Julie, the Davises have discovered the peace and serenity of coastal living. For them, "crossing the swing bridge" onto the island always means a chance to slow down, smell the salt air, and listen to the ocean – and it's only a three-hour drive from their home in central North Carolina.

The Davises spend several long weekends a year at Topsail, and as many weeks during the summer as they can arrange. They've also placed their home in a vacation rentals program – part of their plan to make their beach place an investment as well – and have made several new friends from across the country by sharing the island experience with them. Bill has even mastered surf fishing, and Beth and the girls already have an impressive shell collection from their early-morning walks on the beach.
